Adding Graphics to a Header or Footer

Summary: Sometimes you may need to put more than just text in your worksheet header or footer. This tip illustrates how easy it is to add graphics.

If you need to add a graphic to a worksheet header or footer, it's easy to do using the tools that Excel 2007 provides. Just follow these steps:

  1. Display the Insert tab of the ribbon.
  2. Within the Header & Footer group click either Header or Footer, depending on which you want to edit.
  3. Select the section of the header or footer (left, center, or right) in which you want your graphic to appear.
  4. Click on the Insert Picture button. It is the second button from the right. Excel displays the Insert Picture dialog box.
  5. Use the controls in the dialog box to locate and select the graphic you want in the header or footer.
  6. Click on Insert. Excel places the graphic at the designated spot in the header or footer, displaying the code &[Picture] where the graphic will appear.
  7. Make other changes to the header or footer, as desired.
  8. Click on the OK button to close the Header or Footer dialog box.
